Opulent, elegant and downright gorgeous. These are but some of the words to describe new steak and seafood restaurant, the Sanderson. The 120-seat venue opened last week in the heritage-listed Beneficial House in Sydney’s CBD – the same building as its sibling venue, Sydney’s former world’s best cocktail bar Eau de Vie – which also opened last week after being closed for two years – is found in the basement below. We say kill two birds and come check out both.
And some of the best in the biz when it comes to grand new venues, the Speakeasy Group has opened The Sanderson inside a heritage-listed former department store. With the reputation the team’s built from Nick & Nora’s, Mjolner and the recently reopened Eau de Vie, you can expect attention to detail, a memorable experience and a team that pulls out all the stops.
One of Sydney’s most-awarded whisky bars has been revived—and with it, an opulent new 120-seat steak restaurant that acts as an extension of the bar’s original dimly lit, jazz-infused atmosphere.
From Norwegian-born Sven Almenning and his Speakeasy Group (Eau de Vie, the Roosevelt), this Viking-inspired bar is like a decadent, secret cave.
Once 13th on the World’s 50 Best Bars list, Eau-de-Vie is back, partnered with a luxurious new steak and seafood restaurant.
After a hiatus of more than two years, the award-winning Darlinghurst speakeasy has resurfaced in the CBD. It’s a little older and wiser, but still just as much fun – there’s a serious food menu, 37 signature cocktails and more than 500 whiskies. Plus, all the bartending theatrics you remember.
The hospitality group behind Eau de Vie, Mjolner and Nick & Nora’s unveils its grandest project yet this Thursday when luxe dining room The Sanderson opens at Beneficial House on George Street in the CBD.
Speakeasy Group co-owner Sven Almenning said the handsome Georgian revival building seemed to be the right fit for a venue named after his business partner, Greg Sanderson.
“We’re not into minimalism,” says Greg Sanderson, gesturing towards the dining room at The Sanderson, the Speakeasy Group’s sumptuous new restaurant opening in the CBD on Thursday. “We want you to feel something when you’re in this space.”
If there’s one thing that Sydney has going for it right now, it’s a heck of a lot of openings – and reopenings. And as the purveyor of Good Times, we at Time Out Sydney love to see it. Get ready folks, because there is another big gun reopening very soon – and this is one you’ll want to know about.
